Glacier National Park Walkthrough Galleries

Many Glacier : Many Glacier is a dramatic area in the North East section of the park. If you come over Going to the Sun highway and hit St Mary Lake, it is just a few more miles up the road. The miles are well worth it, as it is one of the most beautiful areas of the park.

Logan's Pass & Going to the Sun Road : Logan's Pass is by far my favorite place in Glacier. It is reached by taking the Going to the Sun Road, which connects the east side of the park with the west. Words cannot describe how beautiful the area is. Hopefully the pictures can. There are lots of places along the road to stop and pull off.

McDonald Creek : McDonald Creek is a very fast running stream with tons of rapids and small waterfalls. It runs right along the first part of the Going to the Sun higway. The water is incredibly green. There are lots of places where you can pull off and take pictures.

Outside Glacier : There are tons of wonderful places to visit around the outside of Glacier. Flathead Lake, Whitefish, Kalispell, and Columbia Falls are just a few locations that are nearby. The pictures in this gallery were all taken either at Flathead Lake or along Highway 2, which runs between East and West Glacier, just South of the park.

St. Mary Lake : St. Mary Lake is located on the eastern side of Glacier park. The lake has tons of trails around it, and the hiking is not very strenuous. There are several very nice waterfalls on the trails along the West side of the Lake within a short hiking distance from the road.

Lake McDonald Lodge : Lake McDonald Lodge is a beautiful old lodge set right on the shores of Lake McDonald. Inside the lobby area there is one of the largest open fireplaces I have ever seen. Behind the Lodge are gardens and trails that lead to the lake. There is also a boat dock there for tours of the lake. There are lots of great photo opportunities around the lodge.

Hidden Lake Trail : The Hidden Lake Trail departs from behind the Logan Pass Visitor Center. It is around 3 miles to the lookout where my picures were shot. You can hike another mile or so down to the lake, but it is pretty steep. There is often snow on the trail, even in the middle of summer, and the weather can change quickly. It is a wonderful hike, though.

Highline Trail : The Highline Trail departs from across the road from the Logan Pass Visitor Center. The trail travels along the Garden Wall at first, and there is very little elevation change for the first few miles. You don't have to go to far to be treated to stunning views of the West side of the park.

Trail of the Cedars : The Trail of the Cedars is a small nature hike that is located along the Going to the Sun road a few miles beyond Lake McDonald Lodge. It is a short hike, and is wheelchair accessible. At the end is a beautiful gorge shown in the pictures. You can also continue on to Avalanche Lake from here.

Lake McDonald : Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier. It is the first thing you run into if you enter on the West side of the park. There are lots of nice trails around the lake, and lots of opportunities for photography.

Far West Glacier : Far West Glacier is probably the least visited area of the park. The roads there are less maintained, and the trails more remote, and you will see many less people. It is, however, very beautiful and raw. You will see many more animals on the West side, and the views of the mountains are wonderful. It's definately worth the drive to visit.
