Zack Biggs, Colin Miller and myself chase storms in Central Oklahoma.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We'd been watching this day for a few weeks as being a strong chance of storms up in central OK. Our initial target was Ardmore. From Ardmore, we continued up north into the Arbuckle mountains. There was a big wreck on the southbound lanes of I35, so we got off the highway and ended up at the overlook for Turner Falls. Towers started to explode all along the dryline at this point. We made the decision to head further south and intercept a cell to our West. We ended up at the intersection of 70 and 76, with a developing wall cloud just to our North. We observed this for a while before it was undercut by the front. The structure of the storms was amazing, and we were kind of lodged between the storm to our North West and a beast of a cell to the South. We shot back East on 70 to Ardmore and headed south on I35.
We next headed west out of Gainsville and stopped near the town of Muenster. An amazing lightning storm was moving very slowly west of town, and we observed an awesome lightning storm for close to 30 minutes from this location.
Finally, we headed East on 380 and ended up near Lake Lavon to shoot lightning of some storms to the north of us. By the time we finally left for home, it was well after 1 am. :)
