April 14th, 2011
Justin, Zack and I chased storms in South East Oklahoma on the evening of the 11th of April. We couldn't leave until 6 pm due to work obligations. We quickly drove up I75 intending to intercept a supercell heading for the Atoka area. As we approached the town of Tushka, we observed a very large and violent mult-vortex tornado crossing 75 a few miles north of us. As we approached town, we observed a lot of tree damage, and the road was blocked. We made the decision to turn around and head back south. We then shot lightning along 75 as the squall line approached and eventually went over us. We didn't find out until returning home that Tushka had taken a direct hit, and we were devestated to have learned of the fatalities and damage there.
